My friend Jessica and I have started a new book review blog.  We invite you to come visit it and leave comments on our reviews.  We're just getting started, so come visit often as we're adding new things daily.

new book series

So for a while now I've been hearing about this really hot vampire series.  I was skeptical about reading them and just kept pushing them down on my to-be-read list.  But I kept hearing people raving about this series and so I broke down.  About two weeks ago, I picked up book 1 (Dark Lover) and just devoured it.  I couldn't put the thing down.  I immediately started book 2 and just loved it (in fact, I thought it was better than book 2).  So, now I know I'm hooked on this series.  I went to the library and got book 3 since I hadn't bought it... but they didn't have the 4th one.  So, I ended up making an emergency run to the bookstore to get them and complete my collection.  I just finished Lover Revealed and want the next book now.  Unfortunately, it doesn't come out for another month or two.  :(

Want more information?  The series is by J.R. Ward and is called the Black Dagger Brotherhood.  The books in order are Dark Lover, Lover Eternal, Lover Awakened and Lover Revealed.  Be warned that they are romances with some violence, but not so much to be considered horror.  I highly recomment them all, and suggest that they are read in order to make more sense (although they could stand on their own, there is an overarching plot line).

It's been a while

OK.  So, I know it's been a long while since I've posted here.  I've been doing a lot of reading and editing... but I've been keeping all that updated on other sites.

Here are some places you can find me (and friend me if you're there):

I will try to update this site with reviews of my favorite books.

Paranormal Historical: Mesmerized

Here's my first review for the book challenge:

Title: Mesmerized

Author: Candace Camp

Year published: 2003

Blurb:

All her life, Olivia Moreland has denied her clairvoyant abilities, working instead to disprove the mediums that flock to London.  But when Stephen, Lord St. Leger, requests her help in investigating an alleged psychic, she can’t ignore the ominous presence she feels within the walls of his ancient estate.  Nor can she ignore the intimate connection she feels to Stephen, as if she has somehow known him before

The last time he’d lived in Blackhope Hall, Stephen had watched as his elder brother claimed both the family title and the woman he loved.  Now, following his brother’s death, Stephen reluctantly returns home and finds his family ensconced in scandal.  Who is behind his brother’s murder—a dark spirit or the psychic who claims to have channeled it?  And what is it about psychic investigator Olivia Moreland that awakens his long-dormant passion?

As they search for answers, Stephen and Olivia discover that the only way to fight a powerful evil is with a powerful love…

Why did you get this book?  I’d actually read other books in the series about the Moreland family and when I came across this book, it was a no-brainer to pick it up and give it a try.

Do you like the cover?  It’s an OK cover. I’m not generally a fan of covers that don’t feature people.

Did you enjoy the book?  Yes.  I wasn’t entirely sure when it started, but I ended up enjoying the story. I liked the paranormal elements—I’m generally not a big fan of “spirit” stories, but this one was well written and intertwined in the love story.

Was the author new to you and would you read something by this author again?  No and Yes

Are you keeping it or passing it on?  Since I borrowed it from a friend, it’ll be going back.  If it had been purchased, I’d probably pass it along since it’s not a book I’d re-read (except to perhaps read the series in order).

Anything else you want to mention about the book?   The blurb is a little misleading.  There is a line about the brother’s murder… the brother died in an accident and his only purpose in the story is that his mother want’s to communicate with him.

Book Challenge

In one of the many groups I'm a part of, the members are being challenged to read certain books.  In this case, they are all historicals... but there's a twist.  Here's the schedule:

January: Paranormal historical
February: Historical set in the West
March: Regency romance
April: American romance
May: Scottish medieval
June: A book that was raved and buzzed about that is still sitting in the TBR
July: A Time Travel Romance
August: Shipboard Romance
September: Schoolmarm romance
October: Farm romance - harvest
November: Any book by a favorite author of yours
December: A book published prior to 2007

We have a form that we are to fill out for each book we read in these sub-genres.

So, I thought I'd post my "reviews" of the books I read for this challenge.  At this time, these will be the only reviews I post in 2007 (unless I absolutely love a book and want to share with you all).  I will however, try to keep a current list of books read and scores I give them (I think I'll try a A-F scale... like we're back in school).

If you have any book suggestions for these listed categories, feel free to post and tell me what they are.
